Sprayer Tank Mix Calculator

Acres per tank = tank size ÷ carrier rate (gal/acre), and product per tank = label rate per acre × acres per tank.

Estimate only. Results are estimates. Verify against the applicable code and manufacturer specifications before relying on them for safety-related work.

gal
gal/ac
From your sprayer calibration.
units per acre
In whatever unit the label uses (fl oz, pints, lb). The result is in the same unit.
ac
Acres covered per tank
20ac
Product per full tank (label units)640 units
Tanks for the whole field4 tanks
Total product for the field (label units)2,560 units
Carrier for the whole field1,200 gal

Show the math

Acres per tank = 300 gal ÷ 15 gal/ac = 20 ac
Product per tank = 32 per acre × 20 ac = 640
Tanks for 80 ac = 80 ÷ 20 = 4
Total product = 32 × 80 ac = 2,560

Rounded the same way as the result above.

How it works

A sprayer applies a fixed volume of carrier per acre, set by calibration. Dividing the tank size by that rate gives the acres one tank covers, and the label rate per acre times those acres is the product to put in the tank.

For a partial tank, use the same rate with the acres you will spray. Always fill and mix in the order the label requires, and run the sprayer’s calibrated gallons per acre.

Acres per tank = tank size ÷ carrier rate (gal/ac) Product per tank = label rate per acre × acres per tank Tanks = field acres ÷ acres per tank

Worked example

A 300 gal tank at 15 gal/acre, applying 32 fl oz per acre over an 80 acre field:

  1. Acres per tank = 300 gal ÷ 15 gal/ac = 20 ac
  2. Product per tank = 32 per acre × 20 ac = 640
  3. Tanks for 80 ac = 80 ÷ 20 = 4
  4. Total product = 32 × 80 ac = 2,560

Assumptions and limits

  • The carrier rate is your calibrated output; this tool does not calibrate the sprayer (see the sprayer calibration calculator).
  • The label rate is your input, in the label’s own units. This calculator does not know any product’s rate or restrictions.
  • Mixing order, tank mix compatibility, and water quality are set by the label.

Common questions

How much chemical do I add per tank?

Multiply the label rate per acre by the acres one tank covers, which is tank size divided by gallons per acre.

What if I am filling a partial tank?

Use the same product per acre times the acres you will spray, then add water to the volume that covers those acres at your carrier rate.

Where do I get the carrier rate?

From a sprayer calibration, which measures the actual gallons per acre at your speed, pressure, and nozzles.

Which units does the product use?

Whatever the label uses. Enter the rate in those units and read the result in the same units.
